You can divide government teachers into 3 parts, PT (Primary Teacher), TGT (Trained Graduate Teacher), and PGT (Post Graduate Teacher)

PT, Primary Teacher teaches 1st to 5th class in government primary schools. To apply for a primary teacher, one should be a minimum of 12th pass with at least 50% marks. And should also be done a 4-year B.Ed (Bachelor of Education), according to the new education policy by the government of India.

TGT, Trained Graduate Teacher teaches 6th to 10th class in government primary schools. To apply for a TGT teacher, one should be a minimum Graduated with at least 50% marks. And should also be done a 2-year B.Ed (Bachelor of Education), according to the new education policy by the government of India. If you're 12th pass, then your B.Ed should be 4 years to be eligible for the TET test.

PGT, Post Graduate Teacher teaches 11th to 12th class in a government college. To apply for a PGT teacher, one should be a minimum Post-Graduated with at least 50% marks. And should also be done a 1-year B.Ed (Bachelor of Education), according to the new education policy by the government of India. If you're a Graduate, then your B.Ed should be 2 years to be eligible for the TET test.

To apply for PT, TGT, or PGT, one should pass the special TET (Teacher's Eligibility Test). TET is of two types, CTET (Central Teacher's Eligibility Test) and STET (State Teacher's Eligibility Test).

CTET is applied all over India and STET is applied at State Level. After CTET, your Teacher's job can be anywhere in India and after STET, your teacher's job can be any city of a particular state of India where you live and given an exam for. 

According to the new Education Policy 2020 of the Central Government of India, TET has some changes in its structure. Now, after passing a CTET or STET exam, an Interview is required for the candidate to be eligible for a teacher's job. The interview is held to test the local language of the candidate. Before there were 2 papers in the TET exam to clear but now there're 4 exams, according to the pattern of foundation, preparatory, middle, and secondary. If you pass the TET exam, you're eligible to apply for a Teacher's Job in India according to your Test. To get the Teacher's Job, passing the Written Exam and Interview process is highly required according to the new Educational Policy 2020 by the Central Government of India.
